1. Application License Error:
This error message usually occurs when your computer system date (totally un-related to Horseworks) is erroneously set at an earlier date than the actual current calendar date. This can be caused by a virus, or an application error, or someone resetting it unknowingly. The solution is simple. To correct, simply go to "My Computer" either through your desktop icon, or through your "Start" menu "Settings" then select the "Control Panel". From the "Control Panel" screen select the "Date/Display" icon to bring up your system date setting calendar. Change the date to reflect today's current date, and make sure the year is current also, then select Apply, then OK.

2. Cannot Create Or Copy Installation Drive Or Folder:
This error usually occurs because your system is not allowing HorseWorks to create the new folders necessary to contain the HorseWorks files. The solution is to manually create them through Windows. Go to your local dick C, then go to File, select New Folder, then name the first new folder ( Horsewks ) without the brackets, then select/open the new folder and create two new folder (sub-folders) named ( Pictures ) and ( Video ) again with out the brackets and place them in the Horsewks folder. Go back to your desktop and resume the installation of HorseWorks. During installation HorseWorks checks your system to see if there are any other instances of the application installed. In some cases it will find the new folders and ask if you wish to overwrite them, select Yes when prompted.

3. Cannot Edit Horse Files:
If you purchased Horseworks-Lite (not Horseworks-Pro) you are able to enter up to 50 horses whose "Type" can either be set at "Reproduction", "Race", "Show", or Pleasure". You can also enter an unlimited number of horses who’s "Type" can be set at "Genealogy". If you exceed entering 50 horses that are set as non-genealogy horses, then all the new horses you enter after the 50-horse limit will automatically convert to genealogy. At that time, all of the features or information fields associated with the non-genealogy horses will disappear from the horse’s screen. If you have mistakenly entered horses in your database for genealogy purposes but did not classify them as genealogy, you will use up the number of horses that can be entered in other classifications that require tracking . If this is the case with you, please check all your horse files and see if any horses that should be genealogy are listed as another horse type. If so, just edit their file to show genealogy as the horse type and this will free up the number of horses you can use for the other horse classifications or types. Once you have reclassified the genealogy horses, simply go back to the horses you need as "Type" horses and change their classification using the "Edit" button. Please note that if a "Type" horse with miscellaneous information is converted into a "Genealogy" horse because you exceeded the 50-horse limit, the information fields will disappear and you will have to re-enter most of the information in the "Edit" horse screen. Luckily, all of the information that you previously entered in any of the horse folders such as the Vet, farrier, or boarding are preserved, and will show up again once the original classification or type has been restored. .Another alternative if you need more than 50 "Type" horses is to upgrade to Horseworks Pro, which will give you an unlimited number of both "Type" and "Genealogy" horses.

4. Database Error, Missing, Corrupt, or Not a Horseworks File:
The reason you have a database error, is you may have opened the Picture or Video folder while you were in the "Open" database option. Horseworks always defaults to the last open folder for databases . Since your database in not in your Picture/or Video folder, when you start the program, it cannot locate, thus the error. Go to the Start Menu: (Make sure Horseworks is closed and no other Windows program is running). Select "Start", then select "Run". In the command line field type: horsewks.ini then select OK. This will bring up a file called horsewks.ini in notepad. Do not move or alter any of the text in the page other than what is listed below. Look for the line that shows your database path and then change yours to match exactly as noted below. It needs to be exact ! (Your probably shows pictures, or video). Change to: dbasepath=C:\HORSEWKS\HORSEWKS.COV

Once you have made the change, go to File, then select Save, then select File again, then Exit. You can then start Horseworks.

5. Fax Cover Page Error:
Some Windows Xp or 2000 systems come pre-installed with Fax Cover Page Editors that create and save fax domuments with the same .cov extension we use in Horseworks. Consequently, with these computers the default file association for the .cov file is the Fax Page Editor. This can cause a conflict or error when trying to open the horseworks database file from within the horseworks folder by double clicking on the .cov file. On occassion, it may also happen when starting horseworks in the conventional manner. The solution is to reset your system so all .cov files are associated with Horseworks. Go to your Local Disk C, then select the Tools menu, then Folder Options, then select the File Type tab. Scroll to the .cov file type. The panel will show which application the file currently opens up with. Select the "Change To" or "Opens With" button to select the Horseworks application. If HorseWorks does not show up in the list, you need to select the "Other Programs" option and then browse your folders for HorseWork s. If HorseWorks does not show up on any list, then browse to the HorseWorks folder in your C drive, then open the folder, then select the Horsewks.exe file as the application that should be associated with opening the .cov file. If you cannot re-associate the .cov file with HorseWorks, then remember to always start HorseWorks in the conventional manner.

6. Glbsstub Error:
The GLBSSTUB error is actually occurring because of a previous program you installed. "Glbsstub" files are created by some installers during setup and are placed in a "Temporary" folder on your computer system. After setup is complete, these files are usually removed by your setup program. On some occasions, the installation procedure does not delete the files and they are left abandoned in the temp folder. After installation these files serve no other purpose. When you try to install another program, the installation setup for the new application encounters the old "glbsstu" files from the previous installation that were never deleted, and then tries to use them for the new installation. Although the old installation files names are correct, they do not contain the correct instructions needed to install the new application, in this case HorseWorks, and therefore you get an error. The solution is simple; just delete the contents of your Temp folders before starting the new installation. This will clear the folders of any old "glbsstub" files and make the folders ready for the new installation. The default Temp folder locations in XP are Windows\Temp Document and Settings\"logged on account"\Local Settings\Temp, and in some cases, it is in the Windows\Temp folder. If you cannot find your temp folder, or it does not contain the "glbsstub" files, then go to your "Start" menu, then select "Search" then "Files and Folders" then in the file name field, type in the word: glbsstub then select "Search". This will list all the files of this type that are in your system along with the folder location on your computer. Some systems are set to hide some folders, therefore you may need to adjust your settings in the Folder Options>View to see these folders. Elect to show hidden and system files and not to hide contents of system folders. It is very important that you do not remove any of the temp folders. Just delete the contents. If you come across a file that won't delete, don't worry about it. Leave it in place and work around it, or better yet, select the file with your right mouse button and then select the "rename" option. You should then rename the file as aaa.tmp and the move it to your desktop. Please remember that temporary files have the .tmp extension, and these can be deleted without harm to your system. Please do not delete any files that you are not sure of as they may be needed by your computer and can result in damage to your system. After the Temp folders are cleaned out, try installing the program again. If you continue to have trouble, contact your computer manufacturer.

7. HorseWorks Freezes in Some Screens:
If some screens in HorseWorks do not not scroll, or Horseworks freezes when you try and access a folder such as the Vet/Farrier or the Breeding/History Folder, it is usually due to your screen resolution setting. Many new Flat and LCD monitors allow for higher screen resolution settings than your vga graphics card can support. The reverse is also true; your card supports a higher setting that your monitor does not, and this can cause freezing or resizing issues on some Horsworks folder screens. Although Horseworks may have been working perfectly well all along, you may have recently installed a new application that changed your screen monitor settings without your knowledge, and you did not notice the problem until some time later when you tried to access a particular screen in HorseWorks. To correct, simply go to "My Computer" then select "Control Panel". Next select "Display" to bring up the "Display Properties" panel. Select the "Settings" tab then adjust your "Screen Area" to either the 800x600 or 1024x768 depending on which will solve the problem for you. Once the setting has been changed, go to HorseWorks and test the problem screen. Horseworks will work without a problem on 640x480, 800x600 and also 1024x768. Try each option to determine the best option for you. Also, make sure your display setting is also set at a minimum of "High Color 16-bit" as any lower color setting such as 16 colors will also cause display-setting problems.

8. HorseWorks Pro Features Not Active:
The installation of HorseWorks Pro is a two-step process. After the initial installation using the serial number listed on the front of the Quick-Start guide, you must activate the Pro features by going to the File menu and selecting Upgrade to HorseWorks Pro. Enter the Keycode # listed on the front of your Quick-Start guide and follow the on-screen instructions.

9. Horse Types Default to Genealogy:
If you purchased Horseworks-Lite (not Horseworks-Pro) you are able to enter up to 50 horses whose "Type" can either be set at "Reproduction", "Race", "Show", or Pleasure". 10. Invalid Path Error:
HorseWorks does not have variable installation path capability. It should always be installed into the "C:\Horsewks" folder. An "Invalid Path Error" occurs when it is mistakenly installed into a folder other than the default folder of "C:\Horsewks". On some computers, the default configuration is to automatically install all programs into the "C:\Program Files" folder. The fix is simple; Delete the original installation by going into Control Panel, and selecting the Add/Remove programs and then remove Horseworks. After successfully deleting the original installation, you can then re-install it. Please remember that when running the installation setup-up, you do not change anything, and take all the default settings. You should then be able to start Horseworks with no problems. If you have a computer that automatically changes the installation path into the "Program Files" folder, then look closely during the re-installation, and change the path to read C:\Horsewks.

11. Invalid Use of Null Error:
The "Invalid Use of Null" error usually occurs when you are closing an accounting cycle that has an invalid date in the current billing period. If you are closing the cycle June 1 through June 30, and have a billing entry of May 10, in that cycle, then you will get the error. Sometimes it also means you have not set your regional settings correctly, and while you think you are working in the current year, you may actually be working in the year 1900, and that will cause the error. In order for HorseWorks to process date entries correctly, your system's "Regional Date Setting" must be set on the MM/dd/yyyy format. You must also enter all dates in the HorseWorks application with 2 digits for the month, 2 digits for the day, and 4 digits for the year, such as 01/01/2005. Using only 2 digits to represent the year as "05" may be interpreted by non-compliant computers as 1905 instead of 2005. To reset your regional settings, select the My Computer icon located on your desktop, then select Control Panel, then Regional Settings. At the Regional Setting panel select the Date tab. At the Short Date Style field select the MM/dd/yyyy option, then select Apply, then OK. Some systems require that you reboot after making the date format change. Each date you previously entered in HorseWorks will now show with 6 digits. Next, start HorseWorks and check all your folders with date entries to find any entries with the 1900 year error or any dates that do not fall within the billing cycle you will be closing. Make each correction manually by re-entering the correct date. Please refer to the Date Format, the Y2K Compatibility, and Y2K Summary sections of the HorseWorks Troubleshooting guide for additional details. Please note on Windows XP the control panel icon is called Regional and Language Options, and the Date tab is accessible through the Customize button.

12. Keycode for Pro Does Not Work:
There are two probable reasons for your keycode not activating the Pro module. 1- You accidently mis-keyed and entered the wrong serial number when you first installed HorseWorks. Ocassionally a user will mis-type one or two digits. To check what you originally entered, please go to the HorseWorks Help menu at the top right of your screen and select About HorseWorks. This will show the serial number you entered. (If you see a number that contains the letters AB3E, then see item # 2 below). If you see you mis-entered 1 or 2 digits, then re-install HorseWorks again over the existing installation (no need to uninstall the program). The installation will preserve your database and you will not lose any farm information you may have entered. After Installation, check the Help Menu again to verify the serial number. If it is correct, then use the keycode provided to upgrade using the instructions in the quick-start guide. 2- If you have Microsoft Office or Microsoft Access on your system and it was running in the background during the installation, this will create a driver conflict that converts the original serial number to 487219ab3e. This will show in the "About HorseWorks" screen, and since the serial number is different, the keycode we issued will not work. In this case, it is necessary to un-install HorseWorks completely. You can uninstall it two ways, by going to the Control Panel and selecting Add/Remove programs, or you can go directly into the HorseWorks folder in the C drive and select the Unwise.exe file. In both cases, once deleted, go back into the C drive and manually delete any HorseWorks files, or folders that may still remain. You also need to delete one additional file named horsewks.ini which is usually located in your C:\Windows folder. Once deleted, reboot your computer, then make sure you shut down either or both of the Microsoft Office and/or Microsoft Access from running in the background. Re-install HorseWorks and check the serial number again. If correct, use the original keycode on the quick-start guide to enable the Pro features. If the About HorseWorks screen still shows the 487219ab3e or similiar number w/letters, then call us and we will issue you a compatable keycode as a last resort.

13. Missing "Shell.Dll" Error:
The "Missing Shell.DLL" file error occurs when this system file is either missing or corrupt on your computer. On some computers, the manufacturers have erroneously neglected to include this system file. This is not a HorseWorks file, but HorseWorks does need it to install properly. Please go to the Tech Support start page and select Download Files, then download the Shell.dll file, then copy it into the following two sub-folders on your computer: C:\windows\system C:\windows\system32. If either or both of these two sub-folders do not exist on your computer, then go to your Local Disk C, select the Windows folder, then select File, then New, then Folder to create the folders. Once the folders have been created, please insure they have the correct names. System, (and) System32, and then place an instance or seperate copies of the shell.DLL file into both folders, then reboot your system and install Horseworks again.

To download, just click on the download option. You will then be prompted as to "Open" or "Save to Disk". Choose "Save to Disk". You will then be prompted where to pace the file. Some systems do not prompt, but you can change and/or select what folder to open. Scroll/select the "Windows" folder located on your C drive, then select the sub-folder, then click OK. Make absolutely sure it is downloaded or copied into the correct sub-folders otherwise Horseworks will still not install.

14. Permission Denied or Similiar Error:
There are a few reasons for this error. Most common is when you try and start your horseWorks database file by clicking on it directly from within the HorseWorks folder rather than by starting the HorseWorks application and then selecting the database. By directly clicking on the database file, it will try and open with the windows default application associated with the .cov file type. Sometimes that may be Fax Cover Page editor which shares the same type of file extension as HorseWorks, and sometime Microsoft access, which is the database file type that drives the HorseWorks application backend. There are three solutions to avoid this conflict: 1, Always start the database file from within the HorseWorks application. 2, Make sure your global default file association for .cov files is set to the HorseWorks application. 3, If you have Ms Office or Ms Access installed on your computer, always shut them down and make sure they are not running in the background. Ms Access, Fax Cover Page editor, and other progr ams cannot run the HorseWorks database file and you will get a Permissions Denied error or another error similiar in nature. To change your default file associations go to your Local Disk C, then select the Tools menu, then Folder Options, then select the File Type tab. Scroll to and then select the file type .cov. The panel will show which application the file currently opens up with. Select the "Change To" or "Opens With" button to select the Horseworks application. If horseworks does not show up in the list, you may need to select the "Other Programs" option and then browse your file folders for Horseworks. If horseworks does not show up on any list, then you need to browse to the Horseworks folder in your C drive, then open the folder, then select the Horsewks.exe file as the application that should be associated with opening the .cov file.

Another reason for the error is when when you try to open up and work with the backup file "back.cov" from either your A drive or your C drive. The backup file is a compressed file that needs to be restored and decompressed through the "Recover Database" option from within the horseWorks application in order to be used. Go to the Utilities menu and select Recover Database, then select the correct drive where your backup is saved. Once you have restored the database, you can then open it through the HorseWorks application.

15. Read Only Error:
Whenever you backup HorseWorks and then burn the backup file to a CD-ROM, your CD Writer converts the backup file to "Read-only." This does not happen on floppy disks or zip disks, or when you backup to your C drive. "Read only" means exactly that; you can read it, but you cannot edit it. Therefore, when you try and restore the backup file through Horsworks, the file will still be "Read-only". Although you can see and or access the file, it will not allow you to edit, save, or create new records.

The fix is simple; prior to restoring the file through the backup process, you must convert the "Read Only" file into an "Archive" file. First locate the backup file on your CD-ROM, then copy and paste it into a temporary folder on your C drive. (If you did a backup through HorseWorks, your database backup file is re-named "backup.cov", if you simply copied your file from within the HorseWorks program, it will be horseworks.cov, or whatever name you have given to your database). After pasting it into the folder, select the database file by clicking on it with "Your Right" mouse button. From the popup panel select Properties, then at the bottom in the "Attributes" section, select "Archive", this will place a check mark in the Archive box, then select Apply, then select OK. This will convert the database file as an archive file that allows it to be used, edited, and saved without error. To restore the backup, see the help menu within the HorseWorks application.

16. Threed.vbx- Out of Date Error:
Sometimes system files can become corrupt or out of date because they have been over-written by another application you previously installed with an older version of that same system file. If your Threed.vbx file is out of date, you can download an up-to-date version that will allow Horseworks to install and operate. Please go to the Tech Support start page and select Download Files, then download the current Threed.vbx file, then copy it into the following sub-folder on your computer: C:\windows\system

If the System sub-folder does not exist on your computer, then go to your Local Disk C, select the Windows folder, then select File, then New, then Folder to create the folder. Once the folder has been created, please insure it has the correct name; System, and then copy the Threed.vbx file into that folder, then reboot your system and install Horseworks again.

To download, just click on the download option. You will then be prompted as to "Open" or "Save to Disk". Choose "Save to Disk". You will then be prompted where to pace the file. Some systems do not prompt, but you can change and/or select what folder to open. Scroll/select the "Windows" folder located on your C drive, then select the System sub-folder, then click OK. if you get a prompt that says "This file already exists and do you want to overwrite it" just click Yes/Ok. Make absolutely sure it is downloaded into your Windows\System folder otherwise Horseworks will still not install.

17. Type Mismatch Error:
Type Mismatch Error. There are several reasons you may encounter a "Type Mismatch" error. Read the following and make the corrections which apply to you.

Regional Settings: The error occurs when your "Regional Settings" are set at anything other than "English/United States". To correct, go to "My Computer" then select "Control Panel" then Select "Regional Settings" to bring up the Regional Settings pop-up panel. In Windows XP, the regional setting option is actually called "Regional and Language options" and you may have to navigate slightly different to access your control panel. In almost all cases, once your are in your Control Panel, the icon for this setting is a green and blue globe (World). Simply double click on the icon. The first screen that appears will show your "regional setting" and the country/region that it is set at. Please change to show "English/United States" then select "Apply" then select "OK". On some systems you may need to re-boot your computer.

Date Format: Your "Short Date" format must be set to MM/dd/yyyy and your "Long Date" format is to MMMM/dd/yyyy. If they are set to any other setting, where the day or year is before the month, it will generate the type mismatch error. To view and reset, go to Regional Settings, then select the "Date" tab at the top of the regional setting panel, on Windows XP, you need to select the "Customize" button", then select the "Date" tab at the top of the panel. In the "Short Date Format Section" select the down arrow to display your options and then select MM/dd/yyyy. At the bottom of the panel in the "Long Date Format Section" select the down arrow, then select the MMMM/dd/yyyy option, then select "Apply", then "OK".

Incorrect serial Number: This is the least likely reason for the error, but happens occasionally. During the installation of HorseWorks you may have entered the serial number incorrectly, and inadvertendly entered a letter where there should have been a number. To view your installation serial number, go to your Start menu (Make sure Horseworks is closed and no other Windows program is running). Select "Start", then select "Run". In the command line field type in the following: horsewks.ini then select OK, This will bring up a file in Windows Notepad called horsewks.ini. It is critical that you do not move or alter any of the text in the page and do make or save any changes in this file. Simply look at or near the very bottom of the page for your serial #. If there are letters where there should be numbers, this will cause the "Type MisMatch" error. To correct, close Notepad, then re-install horseworks using the correct numbers as noted on your Quick-Start guide. You do not have to delete or uninstall it. During re-installation, HorseWorks will search and find your previously installed version. Simply select to overwrite the existing verion and then enter your correct serial numbers when prompted.

18. USB Connected Printer Does Not Print:
The current version of HorseWorks version 3.06 (and earlier) does not support USB connected printers on some versions of Windows. The solution is to reconnect your printer to the LPT1 port (sometimes called a parallel port) usually found on the back of your computer. The LPT1 port connection is the traditional way of connecting a printer to your computer and will eliminate the problem. Read your printer's help manual for instructions on re-connecting it to the LPT1 port. However, if you are using Windows XP w/ Service Pack 2, a printer connected to the USB port will print on most systems. Service Pack-2 is a downloadable patch from the Microsoft website for Windows XP users that resolves many Windows XP errors and compatability issues.

Prior to downloading and installing the Microsoft Service-Pack patch, we recommend you visit the home page of your printer manufacturer and download the latest printer drivers for your printer version. Often times, the manufacturers have become aware of the incompatability issues and have released new driver versions that resolve the problems.

Another possible solution is to change the "Port" assignment of your USB printer connection. Each device connected to your computer system is assigned to a specific port and on occasion a conflict exists between two devices trying to use the same port. To select another USB printer port in Windows XP, go to "Start" then "Printers-Faxes", then right-click on your printer icon, and then select "Properties" at the bottom of the pop-up panel. From here select the "Port" tab. In the port tab you will see a list of your USB, Serial, and LPT ports. Simply select another USB port for your printer, then select "Apply", then "OK". Next, shut all open windows and tabs, and restart HorseWorks to test the printer. If it still does not print, you can then try each available USB port until you locate a port that works.

When all else fails; and your system does not allow HorseWorks to print from a USB port, and your current printer does not have the option of a traditional LPT1 port connection, then you have only two other options or solutions. (1) One option is to purchase a low cost laser printer that has the LPT1 port capability. We recommend buying a simple, inexpensive, "Brother" brand, black & white laser printer, which we have found to print successfully on all windows systems. (2) Option two is to install a free virtual printer driver that will create stand-alone Horseworks forms that you can print from your current printer without any difficulty. Please refer to the Windows Vista Issues below in the section "Printing When All Else Fails" as this virtual printer driver can be used in all Windows systems including 98, 2000, XP, and Vista.

19. 16-Bit MS Dos Sub-System Error:
This error occurs when 16-Bit system files are not present on your computer. Many computer manufacturers configure their systems differently, Some move the folder addresses of these files, rename them, or eliminate them entirely. On occassion this error will occur due to a recent automatic windows update that you inititated online. Since HorseWorks is a 16-Bit application, (and if these files are missing or corrupt during installation) it will prevent you from successfully installing Horseworks.

You can click on the following Microsoft support link to bring you to the page that provides the most current solution, or if the link address has changed you can follow the instructions below which have been copied from the Microsoft site. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324767

If you experience additional 16 Bit MS-DOS errors not covered below, you can visit the microsoft site and run a search on "16-Bit MS-DOS Subsystem Errors" and select from the error message and solution that best suits your situation.

20. Windows Vista Issues:
GENERAL OVERVIEW:
Many HorseWorks issues on Vista are due to factory default settings that restrict the use of the computer.

Starting with XP and going forward to Vista, there is a built-in multi-user platform on home computers allowing numerous individuals to use and share the same computer at varying levels of access. One individual or user is always designated as the “Administrator” who can then add more users and set greater or lesser restrictions for each user.

These default security restrictions affect how most system tasks and applications function. This may include limited access to only parts of an application, or complete inaccessibility. Often times, you will see a pop-up message prompting you to authorize or decline a task that is trying to execute. This was designed to reduce your computer’s security risk and stop unauthorized, and potentially destructive tasks to execute, that may have originated from malware, spyware, viruses, and hackers.

SOLUTION FOR ACCESS AND RESTRICTION ISSUES:
You can solve all HorseWorks, access, initialization, and most operational difficulty by logging in as the “Administrator”. As an Administrator, Vista allows you complete access to any application you launch including HorseWorks and allows it to operate without restriction. If you are having any type of general difficulty (other than printing issues) such as missing file, corrupted database, unable to save, etc., you should first log in as the Administrator as this will solve most problems. If this does not resolve your current difficulty, then you should proceed to the “known Issues and Solutions” section of HorseWorks Tech Support for a more specific solution. For printing issues, please see “Unable to Print” below.

LOGIN AS THE ADMINISTRATOR:
At the Windows Vista start-up screen, you will see icons for each user that is authorized to use your computer including the Administrator. You can log on as the Administrator by selecting the Administrator icon at the startup screen. You can access the startup screen by either rebooting your computer, or by logging off the current session through the start menu at the bottom of your screen. If a separate individual other than yourself is already designated as the Administrator, please ask that individual to modify your user account so you can access and use HorseWorks without restriction.

User accounts can be modified by first logging on as the Administrator, then by going to the Start menu, then Control Panel, then selecting the User Accounts icon and making the necessary changes.

UNABLE TO PRINT:
If your printer is connected to a USB port, you may experience printing difficulty on Vista. Please go to this link to view the various solutions depending on your specific printing issue: USB Connected Printer Does Not Print

PRINTING WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS: PDF Virtual Printer
When you are unable to resolve your HorseWorks printing issue in Vista, XP, or another Windows operating system using a conventional USB or LPT1 printer connection, you can create and print all your HorseWorks documents using a PDF Virtual Printer.

A virtual printer is not a real printer; it’s actually just a printer driver that installs on your computer that you can select and de-select just like your physical printer.

However, when you select the virtual printer, it will not print through your physical printer, but instead will create a stand-alone PDF document of your HorseWorks form that you can save to the HorseWorks folder. You can then open that document as a stand-alone file (independently of HorseWorks) and print it through your current physical printer without difficulty.

The PDF virtual printer is a very small file that you install just like any other application. Once installed, it will appear in the “Print Dialog” box as an option when you select the print button. It will work for your other applications as well. Once the Print Dialog screen appears, select the PFD virtual printer which shows up as “doPDF v6” and then select OK. This will bring up the “Save PDF File” screen. The file name will show as C:\Horsewks\.pdf You must then give the file a name, for example C:\Horsewks\Form1.pdf Then select OK. This will create the document, save it to your computer, and then immediately open the document in your PDF reader to view and print. Since it is automatically saved, you can also print it at a later time.

While in the “Save PDF File” screen, you can change the folder destination by selecting the browse button. However on some Vista systems, the HorseWorks browse button is permanently disabled. You must then manually type in the desired destination folder. If you do not change the destination folder name, all the PDF documents will be placed in the Horsewks folder by default.

DOWNLOAD THE PDF VIRTUAL PRINTER:
The PDF virtual printer available from our website is a third-party application. By choosing to download and use this virtual printer, you are bound by the Users License Agreement issued by that third party. You user license for the virtual printer is between you and them, not you and Equivision. It is your responsibility to download, read, and adhere to the Users License Agreement Terms and Conditions for Use and Distribution.

While there are many virtual printers that you can download from the Internet, we have chosen to provide “doPDF” because it’s simple to install and use, it has a very small file size, and most important of all, it’s free of charge.

You do not have to use this virtual printer, you can surf the web and choose your own. In fact, you may already have an existing virtual PDF printer on your computer. We included this version on our website for your convenience and to also speed up the resolution of your printing issue.

To download, select the download link “, then select “Save” or “Save To Disk”. This will save the file to your computer. Once downloaded, close your Internet browser, and double click on the file to begin the installation. Once installed, you can start HorseWorks and begin to print your documents.

Please remember that your physical printer will show up first in your Print Dialog screen, and that you must scroll to select the PDF Virtual printer.

21. Validation Code - Recurring Registration:
If you previously registered Horseworks and you get a repeated Registration Form Pop-Up requesting a new validation code for the same computer, simply restart, or reboot your computer, as this should remove the pop-up. If it does not, then one of two things has occurred; (1) you added a USB portable devise, or (2) you made a major change to your computer system. Please read the following for more specific solutions and to better understand the validation code process:

Summary:
Each new computer you install HorseWorks onto generates a new computer ID number, and you need a new validation code for each new computer.

However, once you register and receive the validation code, you will not need another code for that same computer unless you make a major change to that computer that alters the configuration settings, such as a new hard-drive, a new printer, adding new memory, etc..

Why Did My Computer ID Change:
The computer ID that HorseWorks uses to validate the computer is based on a variety of configuration settings on your computer. Once these settings are changed, the original validation code given to you will not work, and that causes the Registration Request Pop-Up Form to re-activate. The settings are changed whenever you add or remove components and at times can be altered if you have automatic Windows updates activated on your computer. Those updates can actually change the configuration settings in your system. This can also happen if you run Defrag on your hard-drive, partition your drive, or add a new devise such as a new printer, or fax modem.

A Portable Device May Be The Culprit:
With the increased use and popularity of portable devices such as Flash Cards and USB Thumb Drives, or even USB printers, many users randomly connect then disconnect these devices. Upon doing so, their system configuration is immediately changed upon connecting and then reverts back upon disconnecting. If your original computer id was generated without a portable devise being connected, and then you connect one, your computer ID will change immediately and HorseWorks may not start. The solution is to either connect or disconnect the portable device based on how it was, when you originally installed HorseWorks, then either reboot or restart your computer and then start HorseWorks.

When All Else Fails:
If you previously registered, received a validation code that worked for a period of time and did not make any major hardware changes to your computer, and see the pop-up form show up for no reason, simply reboot the computer. If this does not work, then shut it down completely (power Off), wait about 10 minutes and then restart it. This should remove the registration form. If the reboot, or power-off restart does not remove the pop-up reg form, that means that your computer experienced a significant system change (probably unknown to you) and will require us to give you a new validation code. Please do not re-register; simply send us an email with your name, original serial number, and the new computer ID number that is listed on the pop-up registration form and we will email you a new validation code within 72 hours.
